an everyday love

Love is much different in the day-to-day...

It is no longer about getting to bed at 2am after talking on the phone for 4 hours...
but about taking an extra 20 minutes to help with chores

Not about stopping at the florist and getting a dozen roses...
but an "I love you" before you leave for work

It is not an hour drive for a 30-minute date...
but a difficult conversation ending in tears to help heal the wounds

It is not the big moments that define you,
but the dull and mundane
the routine and every day
the 30 years of good mornings
or the 50 years of goodnights
the 70 years of holding hands
and that one final goodbye

Everyday love, my dear ones, is not a walk in the park
'tho sometimes cozy, fun, and bright...
It is often overlooked, neglected in slight

Don't be mistaken or turned away
from the thought of love that lasts
for it is hurried at first by many
with new feelings and dreams unfurled...

but it is the worn pages and struggles that pass
that make each day turn new
for with each battle fought and won
love deepens more in you

although a kiss may not be lightening
and a hug seem ordinary
when they are gone, it's all you want
it's what made the loving lasting

everyday love is a beaten trail
in a jungle far away
and no one knows how to get there
until they're well on their way

it's the beauty that drew them there
when they first fell in love
and now an experienced hiker
they find a new joy that lasts

they notice the beauty and wonder
more than bugs or heat or rain
they see the flowers blooming
and the life that this place brings

everyday love is a chosen step
never careless, but deliberate
it's a choice to care for the other
regardless if it seems worth to

everyday love never says
do they deserve this?
what do I get?
is it painful or hard to do?

it always says
I believe in you
I am thankful for you
I am here for you

And most of all... how can I serve you?

Everyday love... is constantly, consistently, all the time.... a choice.

I absolutely adored [and learned from] this.

And it reminds me of a great quote from a movie. Tell me if this is true:

"...in a marriage, you're promising to care about everything. The good things, the bad things, the terrible things, the mundane things... all of it, all of the time, every day. You're saying 'Your life will not go unnoticed because I will notice it. Your life will not go un-witnessed because I will be your witness'."
